Make A Plate
Learn to craft and decorate a handmade plate from start to finish
This workshop has 2 parts. In the first half, we’ll cover the fundamental techniques for hand-building a plate. I’ll share ways to add your own flair into your shape, along with techniques I’ve discovered over the years.
You will then be shown how to paint on your plate using ceramic underglazes. This is the bit where you get to add colour and illustration to your piece. You don't need to be a good at drawing to nail this step. Take a look at the Pinterest board I've linked below for some ideas.
At the end of the workshop, I'll take your piece home with me to clear-glaze and fire it. Please allow one month for this process. Your plate will be available for pickup from Summertown Studio, or for delivery ($15 postage fee).
You'll come away with a unique wall decoration, a special functional piece or a very thoughtful gift.
What you get:
Snacks
Tools and plenty of clay
Firing of 1x large plate (30cm max) or 2x small plates (15cm max)
Adhesive disc hangers (should you choose to create a wall hanging).
What to bring:
An apron
A bit of an idea of what you'd like to make
